My Raisen Fort Experience: Glimpse of the Rich History of India

Raisen Fort has a different story of its own. After reading the information found on the internet, I felt that I should visit this fort at least once. Through this blog, I will share with you the history of the magnificent fort of Raisen as well as my experience and I will also show you the photographs I took, so keep reading till the end. Raisen is about 45 km from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh state, and Raisen Fort is situated on a hill here.

This fort is spread over several acres and has huge stone walls and gates. Within the fort, there are temples and many other historical religious structures. This fort has an ancient temple of Shiva and a mosque built by Sher Shah Suri. Apart from the palace, the fort has many small chambers and a pond at the back which I found dry due to summer. So this was some historical information related to this fort, now let me tell you about my experience of Raisen Fort.

I had been planning this trip for a long time, so I chose Sunday. I had been preparing for this trip since morning and left my house, It was around 11:30 when I reached the Fort. There are two ways to reach the fort, one is you can go straight up by car and the other way which I chose is stairs. I wanted to see the fort properly so I chose stairs, if you want you can reach the fort directly by car.

I am healthy so I did not face much difficulty in climbing the stairs but you should choose the stairs route according to your health. Although there are stairs at some places and flat paths at others, I have not counted the stairs but there must be around 300 stairs. There are also some places to sit in between. Still, decide according to your ability. The main entrance known as Sohail Gate, is very strong and big.

As soon as I reached the top, I found an iron gate and whatever I saw after entering it, the scenes from history stories that I had read about this fort started floating in front of my eyes.

One of the most famous sagas related to Raisen Fort is the story, of many Rajput women who had committed Jauhar (self-immolation) with their families to escape the Mughal invading forces. Just thinking about that scene gives me goosebumps, and how much courage is needed to take such a step, only those Rajput women would know this. How brave the women must have been who sacrificed their lives to save their honor and respect. But perhaps today’s generation does not understand this.

As I moved further inside the fort, I started to understand why the invaders wanted to capture it. Because this fort is built in such a way that no invader can easily enter this palace, watch towers have also been built at various places so that invaders can be kept under observation.

It is said about Raisen Fort that spirits of ancient times reside here, but I cannot confirm this fact, because many times people spread such rumors among the people. There are some guards here who have probably been kept to keep an eye on this place. If there was a fear of ghosts here, then why would these guards be here, they are also humans, if there was a ghost here.

An annual fair is held at the Shiva temple during Mahashivratri, which has sacred significance for thousands of devotees and pilgrims. This event is an important cultural attraction and a time of celebration. Raisen Fort and Shiva Temple is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus.

If you want to enjoy the beauty of this fort, you should come during the rainy season. If you want to experience the culture, you should come to the fair on Shivratri festival day.
